Earth Day 2012
There is no better way to celebrate spring than by celebrating Earth Day. Give back to Mother Nature by volunteering at Root Down: Green Columbus’ Earth Day 2012. If you’re lookin to get your hands dirty then may we suggest the following available volunteer sites being hosted by some of our member charities.

Clintonville Clean up hosted by Consider Biking
Help us "Clean up our Backyard" at Consider Biking. Our building is on the ravine which runs into Whetstone Park. It is covered with litter and debris and needs some TLC to look like a natural area again. As the Honeysuckle is growing it, it needs to be cut back to remove the litter and clear the trails. Come for the whole time, or drop in for part of it, we'll use you whenever we have you! Informal Cookout in parking lot after clean up.
COSI Spring Mulching hosted by COSI
We will be spreading mulch around the trees and in some of the perennial beds on the COSI grounds.
Greenlawn Honeysuckle Removal hosted by Friends of the Scioto River
Remove invasive honeysuckle around and below Greenlawn Dam - involves cutting w/o power tools & dragging to a chipper. BYO favorite gloves and small handsaw if you have one.
Greenlawn Litter Clean Up hosted by Friends of the Scioto River
Annual cleanup of floating litter around and below Greenlawn Dam, not kid-friendly due to sharp and dirty objects, please see the gallery at sciotoriverfiends.org to see previous years. BYO favorite gloves.
Neighborhood Clean-up to include Maynard Avenue Intentional Community area and Maynard Avenue UMC area. Clean-up, spruce-up and some plant-up! Bring your gloves and gardening tools, if you can, and share your energy to brighten our neighborhood an office home! Thanks!
We’d also like to give a shout out to a few of our partners who are sponsoring the Earth Day 2012 celebration:
the Ohio State University
Fulcrum Creatives
90.5 WCBE
Columbus Food League
Ohio Environmental Council
We love seeing our partners supporting great work in our community.
Can’t make it to volunteer this weekend? Then make sure you join in all the fun at the celebration party happening Saturday, April 21 at Columbus Commons from 11am to 10pm.
